TGDA collaborated with Cannon Design on the schematic design of a new health sciences campus for Malcolm X College located on Chicago’s Near West Side. Inspired by an American icon and energized by Chicago’s diverse community, Malcolm X College is one of a network of seven City Colleges, and is known for its dynamic educational programs and student culture.

To support the school’s mission, the architecture, landscape, and engineering team collaborated with the specific intent, to design landscape and building as an integrated whole. This effort created multiple desirable destinations throughout the two-block urban infill site and established new safe patterns for pedestrian and vehicle circulation. Campus open spaces provide for informal uses and include raingardens and green roofs as aesthetic and ecological features. These amenities help moderate microclimate and manage stormwater on site.

The design inspires and prepares students for career opportunities, facilitates important social skills and increases personal expectations as part of an enriched educational experience.
