Groundbreaking Ceremony – Aurora River Edge Park
June 20, 2008
On Friday June 20, 2008, city and business leaders, as well as dozens more who back the proposed RiverEdge Park, gathered for a "grand preview" of the future venue promoted as a catalyst of economic growth for the city.
The city set up a self-guided walking tour on the east side of the Fox River where the bulk of the 30-acre park is planned. Starting at the south end, near a former building remodeling company, the tour heads north along Broadway, through fields and on the Fox River Trail with nine sign posts along the way.
At each station, a map and computer-generated images offer the visuals of what the city hopes to create. Highlights include an "iconic" bridge spanning the Fox described as the park's "central focus" and the performance venue now marked by white posts in what is now an open field across from the post office.
