Green Roof Installation at O’Hare Airport Completed
August 28, 2008
The O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP), introduced in June 2001 and approved in September 2005, is Mayor Richard M. Daley’s vision for building a 21st century airport at O’Hare. Terry Guen Design Associates’ involvement at O'Hare Airport includes two green roof projects. The design intent for both projects focuses on creating visually distinctive planting layouts which can be enjoyed by all the people in
the skies departing and arriving at O’Hare Airport.
TGDA’s extensive green roof and planting knowledge is used for specifying plants that look good and grow well in these tough conditions, dealing with little maintenance. The form, color and texture of the plants in combination with significant foliage help to create a highly distinctive display that also help to slow rain water before it falls. The plantings absorbs rainwater which otherwise would be collected in a storm sewer system.
