Chicago Riverwalk Framework Plan

The Chicago River is one of the city’s greatest assets and a riverwalk offers a much needed open space for thousands of office workers and downtown apartment dwellers. This framework plan identifies physical improvements to be implemented to enhance the experience of people living, working, and visiting Downtown Chicago.
Working was part of at team, TGDA created an actionable plan with specific recommendations to guide a multi-year program and provide opportunities for public and private sector participation. The plan establishes guidelines for the construction of a continuous walkway from Lake Michigan to Lake Street, ramp and elevator improvements to establish universal access between street and river levels, loading and storage spaces to support river business operations, and landscape improvements to return plants and animals to the river corridor. Specifically, TGDA was responsible for coordination of the landscape and open space planning portions of the design.
